 Happy Republic Day 2023

I wish you all a very happy Republic day. As we celebrate the Republic Day with pride, gratitude and happiness, let’s thank the Indian army, air force and navy for safeguarding our country from foreign intrusions.

Seventy four years ago, on the 26th of January, we had enforced a constitution which defines the duties and responsibilities of all public servants ranging from the president to the municipal councilor. Did we miss something to mention in this constitution?

The legislative, judiciary and executive institutions which govern the country comprise of less than 5% of our population. The 450 articles of the constitution define the roles and responsibilities of only 5% of the population. Why is there no mention about the duties of the remaining 95%? Don’t we, as common public have a duty to perform to our family, to the society and to the country? 

A teenager in this country is aware of the duties of the president of India. But does he know his responsibilities as a citizen of India?

Have you heard about Upanishads? These manuscripts written between 800BCE to 500BCE describe the social responsibility of each and every individual. The content of these may be totally irrelevant to the current society. But we definitely need something like this. 

I am an Indian. I should represent India. I am not just a ballot paper. My sincere request to all the intellectuals in this country: please append an article to the constitution, defining the roles and responsibilities of each citizen of this country.

I wish all Indians a very happy Independence Day. 

As we celebrate the Independence Day with pride, gratitude and happiness, let’s remember the great Mahatmas who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country.

Each one of us might have his/her own reasons to celebrate this national day. I celebrate to show how thankful; I am to my motherland for all that I have gained from her. Thank you, God, for making me a citizen of this marvelous country. India has given me almost everything. My character, personality, discipline, respect, dignity, acceptance to new ideologies, religion etc. and what not, almost all qualities, I possess today is from this holy land. I thought it’s quite unique to me alone, but it’s in every Indian blood. This is true Indianism. This is the identity my country has given me. The fact that I am Indian is self explanatory of what type of person I am.

In near future, when economies of all countries saturate due to globalization and free trade, its hard to distinguish between € (European) and $(American). We are the only ones to survive with our identity. Because we Indians are not popular for our rupee but for our human values, valor, dignity, culture and our approach to life. The whole world will idolize India. As a citizen, we should thrive to practice, preserve and protect them from falling prey to western culture. Where ever you are, be an Indian.

One amazing aspect of Indianism is tolerance and acceptance to new faith, ideologies, beliefs and people. This is the key reason for the success of this largest democracy. This culture of acceptance is also the main cause for numerous evils to prevail in the society including corruption. We addressed many such evils in peaceful revolutions and are now a brand ambassador of peace to the rest of the world.

If you are fighting for a cause, raise your voice, let your thoughts be heard, convince the govt. and public and the change you want to be bring is inevitable. Hatred and violence is never a solution to any problem.

This is our country. We are here to stay. Let’s clean up the evils prevailing in the society. We are capable of creating a better tomorrow. Raise your voice.

We are all very proud of our nation. Yet most of the time we do complain. I do agree that in our country things do not happen the way they are supposed to be. But then whom are we complaining against? Are you expecting super heroes to solve our problems and clean the society of all evils and make our country a heaven on earth? No God will come to our rescue. If you do not like your society, change it to the way you like. We all know that no good deed comes without pain. If you are dreaming for a corrupt free society, you should be ready to bear the pain and make the necessary sacrifices. Do not contribute/submit to corruption from your side. Play your part in rebuilding our nation. Happy republic day.

I wish all Indians a very happy Independence Day. On this auspicious day, lets thank all the freedom fighters who fought against the mighty British and gifted us the FREEDOM. We all know about the freedom movement and the leaders behind it. How many of us know the history of India after Gandhiji era? To people like me, who belong to the third generation of independent India, we only know the political leaders from the post-Independence era. On this very special day, I wish to remember a very special person from the post-Independence era whose vision and ideology has helped India preserve its Democracy. His practices and regulations that he laid out in 1952 are still followed today. He is our first election commissioner, Sukumar Sen. This civil service officer is the architect of our prestigious and powerful Election commission.

In march 1950, Prime minister Nehru entrusted Mr Sen to invent an election system for democratic India and conduct the first elections to both parliament and state assemblies in spring, 1951. In an era where the right to vote in most countries and also in the west, was reserved only to the men of property and working class, Mr Sen introduced the concept of universal adult franchise. 85% of the 176 million electorate could not read or write. This is the reason why we have symbols and not just the names for each party. Each one of them need to be identified, named and registered. Most of the women refused to give their own name but instead wished to be registered as A’s mother or B’s wife. Mr Sen is the one who abolished this culture and gave a proper identity to women. The following numbers help us understand the scale of Mr Sen’s electoral exercise: elections are held to 500 parliament seats and 4000 assembly seats, 224,000 polling booths were constructed, 8200 tonnes of steel was used to make ballot boxes, 16,500 clerks on six months contract were hired to type the electoral rolls, 56,000 presiding officers, 280,000 helpers and 224,000 policemen were put on duty. Bridges were built to reach out to remote hilly regions and naval ships were used to cover the islands in the Indian ocean. The media of film and radio was extensively used to educate the people about the election process. Several documentaries were made and shown in cinemas all over India. To avoid impersonation, Indian scientists had invented an ink which when applied on voters’ fingers stayed for a week. A total of 389,816 phials of this ink was used in the election.

This massive electoral exercise was successfully executed in spring, 1952 under the great leadership of Mr Sen. Many of the methods that were invented or practiced during this exercise are used even in today’s electioneering.

On this Independence Day, I wish to remember and thank Mr Sen, the hero of Indian Democracy.

I wish all Indians a very happy Republic Day. This year, our special guests from ten south east asian nations are joining our celebrations. New Delhi's strategy to use culture, connectivity and commerce to boost relations with our neighbors is showcasing the true spirit of India. I salute every Indian who is contributing in his own way for the betterness of this fabulous country.

I grew up in an era where Media houses were considered sacred and most trusted institutes. Any news published by them was thoroughly researched and investigated. The messages delivered by them had a huge impact on the masses which helped in developing a stable and tolerant society. We blindly believed in any news published by them. Today with the advancements in digital technology, any individual with a smart phone is a micro media house. He can generate news and publish them on social media in a fraction of seconds. I personally feel, that our mental growth didn't have the same pace as the Media advancements. We still blindly trust and believe everything that is published by anonymous individuals on print media, whatsup, facebook, youtube etc. This social behavior is destroying the core framework of Indian society. 

The tolerance and sensitivity that we have nurtured for decades is being destroyed by a single tweet. Intolerance is derived from distrust for our self and to our loved ones. Are our values so fragile?

Guys, wake up. Our childhood media houses with ethics and genuity have vanished. We need to be very careful and intelligent to differentiate between genuine and fake news. A single tweet,event or incident can not destroy our values.
